Legal Compliance

The SELPA supports to staff and district teams within the 43 LEAs in Sonoma County regarding legal compliance. This includes: writing and implementing legally compliant Individualized Education Programs (IEPs); developing and maintaining legally compliant and effective programs for students with disabilities; and disseminating information regarding updates and changes in special education law and regulations. The SELPA provides numerous trainings in this area, as well as in-person, phone, and/or email consultation on specific issues. In addition, the SELPA maintains on-line resources so that staff and parents will have the most current information regarding legal compliance and requirements. Finally, the SELPA supports to staff and districts in handling, and making corrections for, compliance actions initiated by the California Department of Education (CDE), including, but not limited to Data Identified Non-Compliance corrections, CDE complaints, and district reviews by CDE.
